Il casale di Moiano è la più popolosa frazione di Vico Equense (3570 abitanti). La denominazione di questo casale forse deriva dalla parola Mons. Jani, cioè monte dedicato a Giano, protettore delle vigne per gli antichi romani e quindi detto anche vitifero. Non è meraviglia che i primi abitanti del casale lo dedicassero al dio Giano, assicurandosi così la sua protezione, affinché il vino ogni anno riuscisse di buona qualità. Una cosa è certa che questo casale si espande tutto ai piedi dei celebri Monti Lattari. Su queste alture si respira un’aria sanissima che giova alla salute degli abitanti, grandi lavoratori, diligenti in ogni attività dell’agricoltura, commercio, artigianato e della produzione di pregiatissimi latticini, freschi e stagionati (provoloni). Molti torrenti attraversano il casale, fra questi il rinomato “Rivo d’Anara”, non tanto per il rombo fragoroso che vi producono le acque piovane che scendono dai balzi dei monti, quanto perché il luogo lo si credeva congresso di spiriti infernali. La Chiesa Parrocchiale eretta nel 1585 è di pregevole fattura, e dalla data posta sulla porta d’ingresso si pensa fondata in quell’anno. Presso l’altare maggiore della Chiesa si trova la sepoltura della nobile famiglia Cavolini. San Renato Vescovo di Sorrento n’è il protettore, il giorno festivo che succede nel mese di ottobre viene celebrato dagli abitanti con solennità. Numerose sono le testimonianze di una fede antica conservata nelle Cappelle di S. Pietro e di S. Paolo. Sempre del territorio di Moiano fa parte la chiesa di Santa Maria del Castello, posta in un panoramico villaggio ai piedi del Monte Molaro: da qui l’ardimentoso viaggiatore attraversa il sentiero degli dei e gode della visione di panorami della costiera amalfitana unici al mondo.
Il Palio di S. Renato
Tra le pittoresche strade di Moiano prende vita il prestigioso Palio di San Renato, un evento unico che mescola storia, leggenda e tradizione. In questo incantevole borgo, si tramanda da generazioni il racconto di un possente drago, un valoroso cavaliere e San Renato, figura sacra a cui è dedicata la manifestazione. Durante il Palio, Moiano si trasforma in un vibrante palcoscenico dove le contrade si sfidano con passione in avvincenti gare e competizioni. Il culmine della festa è l’Assalto al Drago, un momento spettacolare che unisce abilità, coraggio e un pizzico di magia, riportando alla memoria gli antichi racconti che ancora risuonano tra le mura del borgo. Una celebrazione che incanta abitanti e visitatori, rendendo Moiano il cuore pulsante di una tradizione senza tempo.

On these heights you can breathe a very healthy air that benefits the health of the inhabitants, who are hard workers, diligent in every activity of agriculture, commerce, craftsmanship and the production of exquisite fresh and mature dairy products (Provoloni). Many streams run through the hamlet, among them the famous “Rivo d’Anara”, not only because of the thunderous roar of the rainwater coming down from the mountain peaks, but also because the place was believed to be a meeting place for infernal spirits. The Parish Church, built in 1585, is of fine workmanship, and from the date on the entrance door it is thought to have been founded in that year. Near the main altar of the church is the tomb of the noble Cavolini family. San. Renato, Bishop of Sorrento, is its protector. The festive day in October is celebrated by the inhabitants with solemnity. Numerous are the testimonies of an ancient faith preserved; in the Chapels of S. Pietro and S. Paolo. The church of Santa Maria del Castello, located in a panoramic village at the foot of ‘Monte Molaro’, is also part of the Moiano territory. From here the daring traveller crosses the path of the gods and enjoys the view of the unique panorama of the Amalfi Coast.
