The medieval section of the residential complex, known as Castello Giusso, was built by the Lord Sparano di Bari between 1248 and 1289. Under Carafa, at the end of the XV century, the castle had three towers: The most majestic tower is the central one, called “Torre Mastra”. The image of these towers is represented in the city’s coat of arms. The manor house was restructured by Ferrante Carafa, who demolished two towers, and by Filippo Ravaschieri around 1640. he castle played an important role in different military events, such as the pirate raids in 1530 and 1636, rejected thanks its cannons. The current look of the castle descends from the interventions realized by the Duke Luigi Giusso in the XIX century.

The castle is currently a private residence, and hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
